šŸŽ„North Somerset Council ā€“ Festive Recycling and Waste Collection Changes

Recycling and waste collections will change over the festive period as crews are not working on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Please note that collections will take place on Sunday 28 December 2025 to help with the catch up.

All collections will return to their normal schedule from Monday 12 January 2026.

You can check your collection dates at the following link: www.n-somerset.gov.uk/calendars Residents using the North Somerset Council app will receive tailored reminders for when to put their bins out.

Wrapping Paper ā€“ Use the Black Bin

Wrapping paper cannot be recycled and should be placed in the black non-recyclable waste bin.

This is because most wrapping paper contains materials such as foil, glitter, ribbon, or tape, making it difficult to recycle.

Eco-friendly alternatives to wrapping paper, including brown paper which has been decorated with stamps, can be recycled with cardboard if the tape is removed.

Recycling CollectionsĀ 

Last year, North Somerset Council saw a 30% increase in recycling compared to an average week. This year, additional crews will be working to support collections.

Please note that some materials, such as cardboard or glass, may be collected at different times or using different vehicles.

To assist the crews, please:

  • Wash and squash all recyclable containers.

  • Flatten and fold cardboard to the size of your recycling box.

Food Waste

Christmas often leads to increased food waste.

A reminder that all food waste for recycling should be wrapped or bagged in a plastic bag.

Real Christmas Trees

There are several ways to recycle or repurpose your real Christmas tree after the festive period.

Information about this yearā€™s charity ā€˜Treecyclingā€™ schemes is attached below.

Residents with a garden waste subscription can place their tree (without pot or decorations) next to their garden waste bin on their January collection date.
