The Parish Council has been notified of the closure of Tower House Lane, 20 meters either side of junction of the entrance to Robin Hill.

The closure is currently scheduled for 23 September 2026 and is anticipated to be in place for 3 days to allow Bristol Water to install a new water supply.

Please note that the above works are weather dependent and may change at short notice. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

The Parish Council has been notified of upcoming traffic management on Whitehouse Lane, Wraxall.

As part of the Hinkley Connection Project, National Grid will be carrying out minor reinstatement work to repair an existing stone wall along Whitehouse Lane. This work is scheduled to take place between 14 September and 9 October 2026 and will involve carefully taking down the damaged wall and rebuilding it.

To allow the team to carry out the work safely, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 9.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. The temporary traffic lights will be removed outside of these working hours, allowing the road to remain open as usual.

A Traffic Management Operative (TMO) will also be on site during working hours to monitor and manage traffic flow.

North Somerset Council is aware that the red recycling bags have not lasted as well as expected. A programme to replace all damaged and faded red bags is underway and is expected to continue until spring 2027.

If your red recycling bag is damaged and unusable, you can bring it along to one of the following ‘drop and swap’ events organised by North Somerset Council and collect a replacement free of charge:

Tuesday 18 August from 10am to 12 noon at Scotch Horn Leisure Centre, Nailsea

Thursday 20 August from 10am to 12 noon at The Campus, Weston-super-Mare.

Monday 24 August from 2pm to 4pm at the Lakegrounds, Portishead.

Please note: These events are for unusable bags only (one bag per property). If your bag is simply faded, please wait for North Somerset Council’s replacement programme to reach your area.

As part of the creation of the Western Forest, Avon Wildlife Trust is offering advice, support and funding options to farmers, land-owning businesses, community groups and local councils who are interested in planting trees on their land.

Free advice and support on offer:

• Site visit and walk over
• Design of tree planting scheme to support existing agricultural uses, or public/community needs as appropriate
• Review of funding options and support accessing funding if required
• Support with sourcing reputable trees and contractors as required
• Long-term management plan to support tree establishment and overall success of the scheme

This service is free, intending to make it as easy as possible for landowners to plant the right trees in the right place, benefitting farm businesses, communities and nature.

Examples of planting types that Avon Wildlife Trust can help you create (subject to minimum size of site*):

• Wood pasture or wood meadow: Providing livestock with shade and shelter, reducing heat stress and creating a resilient environment for increasingly warm summers.
• Fruit and nut trees in arable fields: Diversifying crop production and improving soil quality, which reduces the impacts of drought, flooding and wind erosion and helps tackle nitrate runoff.
• Hedgerows: New hedgerows provide shelter for livestock and cross-slope planting can reduce runoff. The hedges also act as corridors for wildlife and can be coppiced for fuel.
• Orchards: Creating additional crop income streams or community benefit. Orchards can also be combined with grazing systems, with the trees providing shade and shelter for animals.
• Shelterbelts: Woodlands can be strategically planted to act as shelterbelts to reduce wind effects, or riparian buffers alongside watercourses to capture sediment and nutrients from adjacent fields.
• Field corners/copses and woodland: Planting in less-productive areas can benefit wildlife as well as creating a potential income stream through timber production.
