Proposed Changes to the Working Age Council Tax Reduction Scheme

North Somerset Council is currently reviewing its Council Tax Reduction Scheme, which helps low-income households with their council tax bills.

At present, the scheme can cover up to 75.5% of a household’s council tax bill; however, North Somerset Council is proposing to lower this maximum level of help to 65.5%.

This reduction of 10% would apply across all levels of support, meaning that every household receiving Council Tax Reduction – whether currently getting the maximum or a smaller percentage – would see their help reduced from April 2026.

North Somerset Council has launched a public consultation to gather residents’ views on this proposal. This is your opportunity to share your feedback before any final decisions are made.
