🌳 Operations at Leigh Woods

The Parish Council has been informed that on Monday 17th November 2025 Forestry England has commenced timber harvesting work at Leigh Woods. These works are expected to continue for approximately 4 weeks.

The forest is still open for visitors; however, the Red walking trail will be diverted for safety reasons.

Forestry work is very hazardous; therefore, Forestry England asks that visitors follow all signs and instructions at all times, whether or not they can see or hear anyone working in the woods.

In a section of the forest overlooking the Avon Gorge, Forestry England is restoring a rare woodland type known as Tilio-acerion. This distinctive mix of tree species is one of the reasons the Avon Gorge Woodlands are designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). To help restore the habitat, Forestry England is selectively removing certain trees to encourage the return of small-leaved lime coppice. The area contains old small-leaved lime coppice stools (stumps) that will benefit from the increased space and reduced competition for light, water, and nutrients.
